Neilson C. Conklin, President

Neilson C. Conklin was named President of Farm Foundation in January 2008. Dr. Conklin previously served as director of the market and trade economics division of USDA’s Economic Research Service. In that role, he initiated the ERS research program on the economics of bioenergy, and directed development of new modeling frameworks on global trade policy analysis. Before joining ERS in 1999, Dr. Conklin spent six years at the Farm Credit Council as vice president and chief economist. He previously worked at the Office of Management and Budget, and has had teaching assignments at Arizona State University, the University of Arizona and at Colorado State University. Kevin McNew, President and Founder, Cash Grain Bids Inc.

Kevin was raised on a farm in central Oklahoma. He received his Bachelors degree from Oklahoma State University and Masters and PhD from North Carolina State University in economics.

For over a decade, he was a Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland and Montana State University focusing on commodity markets. He won numerous academic awards over his career for his research and outreach work, and was widely regarded for boiling down complex economic issues in to easy-to-understand concepts for applied life.

His creative interest in localized commodity markets and his passion for applied problem-solving led McNew to found Cash Grain Bids Inc in 1999. It's mission was to be more than data, but a reliable source of unbiased intelligence to commodity traders.

Farming in the 21st Century is an enterprise governed by public policy. Markets and resources are monitored and modified by a host of public policies from the local to the national and international levels.  Public policy impacts individuals, businesses, communities and environments. The impacts are immediate and long term.

The UMD Center for Agricultural and Natural Resource Policy provides research, education and outreach on public policies facing Maryland, the U.S., and the world.  While our audience is mostly local, our outlook is global.  Only then can we serve the public good adequately.
